According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at several places, while extremely heavy rainfall is expected to lash isolated places in parts of northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry under the influence of Cyclone Fengal.

In a move to protect the safety of students, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered all schools and colleges in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts to remain closed on November 30.

Cyclone Fengal will likely become a cyclonic storm, causing heavy to moderate rains in Tamil Nadu. Schools in 11 districts, including Chennai and Puducherry, will be shut on November 29 and November 30.

With Cyclonic Storm ’Fengal’ approaching the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, a senior IMD official said that there was will be fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of the state.

With Fengal set to make landfall, the Tamil Nadu government has urged residents to stay indoors and declared November 30 a holiday for educational institutions. IT companies have been advised to allow employees to work from home.

In light of heavy rainfall in several districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, IndiGo airline issued a travel advisory regarding its flights.

Chennai and surrounding regions have been experiencing continuous rainfall since Tuesday, with authorities declaring a yellow alert as Cyclone Fengal intensifies.

Schools in Tiruchirappalli, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Tiruvarur are closed in anticipation of heavy rains.
