A new cyclonic system is rapidly intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an alert for residents

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh between November 27 and 29. Strong winds, ranging between 45-55 km/h with gusts up to 65 km/h, are likely along the affected coasts. Additionally, rough seas may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt marine activities.

The deep depression is set to bring significant rainfall to coastal districts like Nagai, Karaikal, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, and Ramanathapuram. These areas are likely to bear the brunt of the weather system. The storm’s proximity is expected to bring intense rainfall to the Delta region, which could result in localized flooding and waterlogging.

If the depression turns into a cyclone it will be called as Fengal. Name of cyclone Fengal was proposed by Saudi Arabia and draws its roots from the Arabic language.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a cyclone alert for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as Cyclone Fengal approaches. Residents brace for heavy rainfall and possible damage to crops from November 27 to November 30.

IMD has issued a red alert for Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai districts and the Karaikal area on November 26, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in many places across these four districts. On November 27, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore and the Karaikal area have been issued a red alert.
