Google Maps has quietly altered how incident reports work, with a new "Police" option that replaces speed traps.

Google is making a few quality-of-life changes that should make incident reporting a lot easier in Google Maps. They started earlier this week by renaming the "speed trap" option

We're not sure why it took so long to implement, but Google Maps users can now see Waze's (arguably superior) crowd-sourced incident report markers on their navigation routes.

As many of you know, Google owns both Google Maps and Waze. Google paid $1.3 billion back in 2013 for the crowdsourced navigation app and website. Over the years Google has shared some of the best features found on Waze with Google Maps and now it is happening again.

Google Maps went through a huge change earlier this year — fixing the way you report incidents to something a little more akin to its sibling, Waze. From cars in the road to major accidents, it’s a way for users to help keep Google maps up to date in real time.

First previewed in July, the feature displays roadblocks reported by Waze drivers in the Google Maps app. You can dismiss them or add details based on your own journey.

The navigation app has been adding more information about traffic cameras and user-provided road-condition reports.
