Israeli hostage Omer Neutra is confirmed dead in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces announced on Monday.The IDF says the 21-year-old from Long Island was killed fighting Hamas militants during the Oct. 7 massacre.

An Israeli American soldier who was thought to have been taken hostage by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, was actually killed, Israel says.

Neutra, 21, a New York native, was believed to have been captured alive when Hamas attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

The Israeli military said Monday that Omer Maxim Neutra, an American-Israeli citizen who was previously believed to be alive and held hostage in Gaza, was killed during the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023.

Hamas is still holding around 100 hostages inside Gaza, at least a third of whom are believed to be dead. The Biden administration says it is making another push for a ceasefire and the release of the remaining hostages, after nearly a year of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas repeatedly stalled.
