The holidays are just around the corner, which means it’s time to kick off the season with Pittsburgh’s annual Light Up Night.

You can also check out the new light display and holiday experience called "Aurora" in Mellon Square. Its debut is on Light Up Night. The 25-foot light display is designed by a Pittsburgh-based artist named Joshua Challen Ice and will feature hundreds of diamond-shaped panels that will change colors when the wind blows or when people touch them.

Light Up Night doesn’t just mark the beginning of the holiday season in Pittsburgh. Officials say it also draws visitors to Downtown businesses and helps the Golden Triangle burnish a sometimes less-than-stellar image.

The 63rd annual Highmark Light Up Night brought thousands of people downtown to kick off the holidays in Pittsburgh and truly embody the spirit of Christmas with visits from Santa's helpers.

The City of Pittsburgh celebrated the 63rd annual Light Up Night Saturday. Festivities kicked off with the tree lighting at the City-County building followed by a fireworks show. That was just the start of the night’s events.
