(Reuters) -Indian food and grocery delivery firm Swiggy reported a narrower quarterly loss on Tuesday as the newly listed company saw robust order growth in both its food delivery and quick commerce segments.

Indian food and grocery delivery firm Swiggy reported a narrower quarterly loss on Tuesday as the newly listed company saw robust order growth in both its food delivery and quick commerce segments.

Swiggy’s quick commerce business saw its operating revenue surge 135.7% to INR 490 Cr in Q2 FY25 from INR 208 Cr in the year-ago period.

Swiggy shares surged on Tuesday, ahead of the company’s Q2 result announcement. This will be the company’s first earnings report since its listing on November 13, 2024.

Zomato, Swiggy's old rival, had posted a revenue of Rs 4,799 crore and had a profit after tax of Rs 272 crore during the September quarter.

Swiggy made its debut on the Dalal Street on November 13, with its shares listing at Rs 420 on the NSE, reflecting a 7.7% increase from the IPO price. On the BSE, the stock debuted at Rs 412, a 5.6% premium over the issue price.

Swiggy shares rose 9.4% to Rs 542.10 on the BSE. The company will release its Q2 financial results today. Swiggy's IPO had significant subscriptions and showed good investor interest. The company has faced net losses since inception but saw revenue double in FY24.

Swiggy had posted a revenue of Rs 1,952.9 crore and its losses stood at Rs 497.5 crore during Q1FY25. Zomato, Swiggy's old rival, had posted a revenue of Rs 4,799 crore and had a profit after tax of Rs 272 crore during the September quarter.
