Apple TV+ hit Ted Lasso apparently drew a lot of inspiration from The Wizard of Oz, including with these four key characters.

Brett Goldstein confirms a fan theory stating that The Wizard of Oz heavily inspired Ted Lasso. With Wicked smashing at the box office, the theory that the Apple TV+ comedy is a modern retelling of L. Frank Baum’s classic has resurfaced.

Ted Lasso writer, Brett Goldstein, who also plays Roy Kent, has come out to convey that the Apple TV+ series is indeed a modern-day adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. The confession comes in the wake of the release of Wicked,

Many have pointed to that message at the heart of Ted Lasso as evidence that the show is, in a sense, a modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz. Since the show's premiere, fan theories have broken down everything from Roy Kent's tie-dye yellow brick road-esque shirt to Ted's red sneakers to the Wizard of Oz themed pinball machine in the show's penultimate episode.
