US envoy Amos Hochstein arrived in Beirut in a bid to secure a cease-fire deal between Israel and Hezbollah, as the Lebanese group reportedly approved a new proposal to halt the hostilities, with some comments.

Israel has dealt massive blows against Hezbollah since going on the offensive in September. Now, a ceasefire appears likely, but there are still significant steps both sides need to take to reach an agreement,

The European Union's foreign policy chief urged the Israeli government on Tuesday to back a proposed ceasefire deal in Lebanon which he said has all the necessary security guarantees for Israel. Speaking at a G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in Italy,

"We believe that the trajectory of this is going in a very positive direction," the National Security Council's John Kirby said.

Four senior Lebanese sources said that U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron were expected to announce a ceasefire in Lebanon between armed group Hezbollah and Israel within 36 hours.

Israel and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah have apparently reached an agreement to end their year-long war in Lebanon.
