Flight operations at Chennai airport resumed this morning after around 16 hours. The Chennai airport advised passengers to reach out to their respective airlines for information regarding their flights.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Cyclone Fengal is likely to continue inching toward west-southwestward, weakening into a deep depression within the next few hours. The cyclone was monitored by Doppler weather radars in Chennai and Karaikal.

A video that went viral on social media shows the plane was trying to land amid extremely bad weather. The strong wind during Cyclone Fengal's landfall forced the plane to abort the landing process and fly back.

Intense rainfall is forecasted for northern coastal Tamil Nadu due to Cyclone Fengal, with heavy rain expected in several districts, including Chennai. A red alert has been issued, and authorities have advised against visiting beaches.
