According to the latest updates, schools and colleges in some parts of Tamil Nadu will remain closed due to heavy rainfall. Schools and colleges will be closed in Karaikal and Puducherry and also a few parts of Chennai.

Education Minister A Namachivayam of Puducherry announced today, December 3, a holiday for all government and private schools and institutions due to the heavy rains caused by Cyclone Fengal.

Heavy rains, accompanied by gusty winds, lashed northern Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry as Cyclone Fengal made landfall.

Cyclone Fengal is set to make landfall on the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast with winds up to 90 kmph. Heavy rains have already caused waterlogging in Chennai, while authorities issue advisories for flight disruptions and caution against venturing near beaches.

Entire Puducherry town is flooded in yesterday’s heavy downpour of 46 cm rainfall, the highest since 2004 when it was 21 cm.

Chennai and nearby areas experienced heavy rains due to cyclone Fengal, disrupting transport services and prompting evacuations. While no major damage was reported, hospitals were inundated, and operations at Chennai airport were suspended.

At least three people were killed in electrocutions in different rain-related incidents in Chennai on Saturday, according to officials.
