Israel's cabinet on Tuesday approved a ceasefire proposal between Israel and Hezbollah after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he backed the deal. "If Hezbollah breaks the agreement and tries to rearm, we will attack," Netanyahu said on Tuesday ahead of the cabinet's decision. "For every violation, we will attack with might."

A Hezbollah spokesperson told Newsweek the group is "strong in the field and with every day that passes we become stronger."

The ceasefire went into effect 4 a.m. Wednesday, local time, which was five hours after the ceasefire agreement was announced.

JERUSALEM — Not long after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he had recommended that his Cabinet approve a ceasefire with Hezbollah to end hostilities in Lebanon, his office announced that the ministers had done just that. But Israel "reserves its right to act against any threat to its security," his office said.
