The $2.5mn world championship match in Singapore has turned into a tight contest as China’s Ding Liren, 32, and India’s Gukesh Dommaraju, at 18 the youngest ever challenger, remained level at 3-3 in their 14-game series before Monday’s rest day.

For vast portions of game 7 on Tuesday, the challenger D Gukesh, playing with white pieces, held the upper hand. But Ding Liren, as he has done in some of the previous games, held on and salvaged a draw.
