Mughrabi CAIRO (Reuters) -Israeli military strikes killed at least 40 Palestinians overnight and on Friday in the Gaza Strip, medics said, as efforts to revive Gaza ceasefire talks received a boost with officials from the Palestinian group Hamas headed to Cairo for a new round of talks.

President Joe Biden announced Tuesday that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a deal brokered by the U.S. "to end the devastating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah."

As efforts continue to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip following a deal in Lebanon, some officials believe Hamas might make concessions

The bursts of violence — with no reports of serious casualties — reflected the uneasy nature of the ceasefire that otherwise appeared to hold as Lebanese troops began to deploy in parts of southern Lebanon.

Hamas representatives will go to Cairo for talks on a possible ceasefire in Gaza, an official in the Palestinian militant group told AFP.

And just as the Lebanese people deserve a future of security and prosperity, so do the people of Gaza. They, too, deserve an end to the fighting and displacement. The people of Gaza have been through hell.

Hamas has freed about 100 hostages since the temporary cease-fire took effect and, despite ongoing violence outside Gaza, the truce was extended for at least 1 more day.
