Georgia has suspended its bid to join the European Union, prompting thousands of protesters to take to the streets, where they clashed with police in the capital of Tbilisi.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Tbilisi on Thursday, November 28, to protest the government's decision to suspend EU accession talks for four years. Police began dispersing the crowd after midnight,

“The use of water cannon, tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets aimed at protesters’ faces at close range - as well as the chasing and incessant beating of peaceful demonstrators - shows the Government’s determination to suppress dissent through the unlawful use of force by the police.
