Metro Detroit is in for some snow over the next 24 hours, but how much should we expect and when will it be the strongest?

Periods of heavy snow - called snow squalls - are expected to lead to dangerous, icy roads Wednesday night in Southeast Michigan.

As Metro Detroit gears up for another round of winter weather, road crews are at work treating roads ahead of expected icy conditions.

DETROIT – There’s a three-hour window when you’re most likely to see heavy snow Wednesday in Metro Detroit. Light snow flurries began Wednesday morning in Southeast Michigan and the Thumb, but the heaviest bands of snow are expected much later in the day.

With the forecast calling for weather that will lead to messy roads overnight Wednesday into Thursday in Metro Detroit, some students may be hoping this means they'll get a snow day.

The National Weather Service issued an updated report at 7:55 p.m. EST on Wednesday for strong winds and heavy snow until 9:15 p.m. EST for Cass, St. Joseph, Branch and Hillsdale counties.

Winter has arrived early for Southeast Michigan and as we flipped the calendar over to December, FOX 2 is already tracking another snow-making system, this one that could bring small but nuisance amounts of snow.
