Heads up if you’re travelling in Japan! The Land of the Rising Sun was recently rattled by a pair of powerful earthquakes. On Tuesday night, 26 Nov 2024, a 6.4 magnitude tremor hit the Ishikawa prefecture, followed by a 6.2 magnitude quake near the west coast of Honshu.

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit near Honshu, Japan's west coast, with no tsunami warning or immediate damage reports. The quake occurred at an 8 km depth, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

The epicenter was about 4.6 miles north of Point Dume, in the mountains above Malibu's city limits. It's the seventh earthquake so far this year to rumble in this area.

A minor, 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck in Connecticut on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at 7:33 p.m. Eastern about 1 mile northwest of Moodus, Conn., data from the agency shows.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Ishikawa and surrounding prefectures in central Japan on Tuesday night, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The agency confirmed no tsunami warning was issued.
