California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a proposal Monday that would implement a state rebate for electric vehicle purchases in response to the incoming presidency of Donald Trump who will likely end the Biden-implemented federal tax credits.

The funding could come from polluters under the state’s cap-and-trade program, which pays costs ultimately passed onto energy consumers.
