The Detroit Lions made another veteran addition to the linebacker room, signing Kwon Alexander off of the Denver Broncos practice squad. Alexander will be on his seventh team in 10 NFL seasons, and is on Detroit's active roster as a result of the team claiming him off of another practice squad.

The Lions have signed linebacker Kwon Alexander off the Broncos’ practice squad to their own 53-man roster. Denver could have prevented it by promoting Alexander, but the team previously opted to promote Zach Cunningham from the practice squad to the active roster earlier this week.

First reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Alexander was initially signed to the Broncos’ practice squad following Week 3, which saw linebacker Alex Singleton suffer a season-ending injury. Fellow veteran linebacker Zach Cunningham was also signed at the time to the practice squad.

Alexander was signed Sept. 25 to Denver's practice squad and eventually was elevated the maximum of three times for games, starting in two. However, the Broncos elected Wednesday to sign linebacker Zach Cunningham off the practice squad instead of Alexander after Cunningham had been elevated three times after Alexander was.

The Lions announced that linebacker Alex Anzalone will miss the game with a hand injury. He is not traveling with the team to New Orleans. It's a significant blow to a Lions defense that has been struggling in recent weeks.
