The special session ended last week with several changes to Louisiana's tax structure, including an increase in sales taxes.

Louisiana lawmakers ended their third special session of the year on Friday with updates to the state's tax code that hand Gov. Jeff Landry a win while also changing how the state collects revenue to pay its bills.

According to the Tax Foundation, Louisiana’s average combined local and state sales tax rate is 9.56 percent, the highest in the nation. Tax Foundation analyst Manesh Bhatt says there’s a chance lawmakers could eventually bring down that tax rate.

A Louisiana judge has halted plans for state agencies to forcibly remove homeless encampments in New Orleans by Thanksgiving

Republican Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry earlier this month pushed the city of New Orleans to clear out the homeless encampments ahead of the upcoming holiday, and threatened to intervene if they failed to do so.
