Tyrese Hunter scored 17 of his 26 points after halftime to lead Memphis to a 99-97 overtime win against two-time defending national champion and second-ranked UConn in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

MAUI, Hawaii — Memphis basketball took down Michigan State 71-63 Tuesday to advance to the Maui Invitational championship game for the first time in program history. The Tigers (6-0) will face No. 3 Auburn (6-0) on Wednesday (4 p.m. CT, ESPN).

It’s the first time in program history that Auburn has won out in Maui. It beat a pair of ranked teams to do so, surviving a scare from No. 5 Iowa State on Monday and handling No. 12 North Carolina late Tuesday night to get to Wednesday’s Memphis matchup.
