As new Blues coach Jim Montgomery appeared before reporters Monday at Madison Square Garden sporting a dark blue sweatshirt emblazoned with the team’s famed blue note logo, there was no hesitation about his emotions.

Just five days after the Bruins fired Montgomery, the St. Louis Blues announced that they’ve hired him as their next head coach. The Blues relieved Drew Bannister of his duties and signed Montgomery to a five-year contract to become the 28th coach in franchise history.
